A luxury, eco-build floating on a 40m high cliff on the Solway Coast
The clients wanted a new build which reflected their bond with the elements and that brought the outdoors indoors. They wanted something that was private and secure, with 24 hour CCTV and automated entrance gates but luxurious, with digital mood lighting and intelligent lighting. Low maintenance and naturally inspired then finished to a very high specification to allow the barefoot, t-shirt living they wanted to achieve.
The client wanted the flexibility of design and the high levels of insulation that SIPs panels could achieve also due to the lightweight construction of the panels no further framing was required and they were quicker to install
The SIPs panels are sustainable and environmentally friendly, which was great for the client, whose main aim was to achieve a build that reduced the need for heating.
The use of SIPs panels created a thermal envelope and insulated the house and reduced heating costs. They’ve also incorporated solar panelling, triple glazing and heat recycling to keep energy costs minimal.
The house won Best Property of the Year and Best Luxury New Build (over £1m) in the Northern Design Awards 2012, Saltire Society Housing Design Awards 2012 New Build Category, was shortlisted in the Grand Designs Housing Awards 2012 and most recently won the Architectural Excellence Award at the Scottish Home Awards 2013.
The clients have achieved an original house which will grow with them over the years and accommodate the different stages of life. It’s starting out as a relaxing sanctuary for the couple evolving to a family home. It will also as a place for entertaining for years to come.
